Fun Things to Do In St. Louis in Summer

What’s on YOUR Summer To-Do List?

Summer has arrived and we’re all about that cheap fun! We’re here to let you in on just a few of the endless fun things to do around St. Louis during these hot yet bustling summer months without busting the wallet. This is the time when the city comes to life, and we want to help you stock up on all your party necessities. So, get out, enjoy the heat, and when you need to reward yourself with refreshing drinks (on the cheap), we got you covered!

JUNE

1. Ozark Outdoors Riverfront Resort
Did someone say float trip?! Count me in—er, count us all in! This resort in Leasburg, Missouri gives you the option to float down the Courtois Creek, the Meramec River, or the Huzzah River. Be prepared to party with your crew late into the night, get up early Saturday morning for an all-day float trip, and ride the river with drinks by your side. Rafts fit up to 10 people and it’s quite the norm to float with your cooler hitched to the outside. So pack a picnic, stock the ice, and get ready to ride the river!

2. Whitaker Music Festival Concert

It’s officially summer in St. Louis when Wednesday nights at the Missouri Botanical Gardens treat hundreds of guests to a free concert. Again, pack a picnic, round up some friends, and dive into your cooler filled with Dirt Cheap summer essential elixirs. What’s the music act, you say? Every week they change it up, with a wonderful array of local St. Louis musicians. Let’s get groovy.

JULY

1. Yappy Hour at the Biergarten
We hear a little pregame calling your name…Grab some friends and enjoy some discount Dirt Cheap drinks before the Biergarten, then pay for a few brews and appetizers ($2 Bud Lights, $3 pretzel sticks, and $5 wings) while at the Biergarten, and then keep the party going once the Biergarten specials have dwindled for the night with more Dirt Cheap bargain drinks! Guests at Anheuser Busch’s Biergarten are allowed and encouraged to bring their dogs to the outdoor patio on Thursdays from 4-8 p.m. for Yappy Hour. The event is free and includes live music from local bands. How’s that for a summer night?

The 2016 live music line-up is as follows:
July 7: Musicology
July 14: Fanfare Band
July 21: Bacon
July 28: Leland’s Road

2. Art Hill Film Series
To Forest Park we go…Yet this time we’re on Art Hill! During the month of July, the Saint Louis Art Museum hosts a series of free outdoor films on the famous and all-encompassing Art Hill. There will be food trucks, craft stations, and DJs galore, so this is your time to grab some buddies, sip some of your favorite heat-busting drinks, sit back, relax, and enjoy the film.

Here are July’s feature presentations:
Friday, July 8 Top Gun
Friday, July 15 Rocky
Friday, July 22 E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
Friday, July 29 Forrest Gump

3. Journey & The Doobie Brothers with special guest Dave Mason
Don’t Stop Believin’ that just because tailgating is not allowed AT Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre, doesn’t mean that you can’t tailgate at all. Dirt Cheap is your perfect place to stop by on concert afternoons to stock up on your drinks and get the party started early. You can drink at the concert but you might as well save a few bucks and drink ahead of time. Hit up Dirt Cheap and Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre on Saturday, July 30, 2016 to have a good time and rock out with Journey.

AUGUST

1. Gateway Arch Riverboat Blues Cruise
No, not a Booze Cruise, but a BLUES Cruise. But, why not make it both, right? Take a ride along the Mississippi River while listening to top local blues bands playing live aboard. There’s no better way to admire the beautiful St. Louis city skyline than on the water. Although outside beverages are not allowed to be brought aboard the ship, you already know that Dirt Cheap is your go-to shop for both pre and post parties. So sip, float, and relax. Then keep the party rolling afterwards with an overflowing cooler!

This cruise runs on select Thursdays June 16–October 20.

Here is 2016’s timetable and music features:
Board 8:00pm
Depart 8:30pm
Return 11:00pm

August 4 – Jeremiah Johnson
August 25 – Big George

2. St. Louis World’s Fare Heritage Festival
The St. Louis World’s Fare Heritage Festival is back at Forest Park from August 19-21, 2016! St. Louis will be celebrated through art, music, business, history, and, of course, local food! There will be local music performances, artists, and food trucks and, without a doubt, plenty of time and room to dig into your cooler of Dirt Cheap basics. Set up at the World’s Fair Pavilion and indulge in some STL history!

3. Food Truck Friday in Tower Grove Park
The most prized of them all! Food trucks have taken over and Tower Grove Food Truck Fridays are a hit. Bring some brews to wash down the dozens of food choices available, and enjoy some bumpin’ live music. Come join the crowd on August 12 from 4-8pm.

Stop by before or after any and all of these STL summer events! We’ll continue to be your one-stop party shop for all of your excursions, so stop by and grab a bargain! Just remember… Have FUN, but be careful out there!
